For people who don't watch a lot of films, a movie is a movie. But anyone who makes regular visits to the theater or the video store knows that movies can be divided into different categories depending on their tone, structure, and plot. In film, these categories are called genres. These genres help people to find a movie they think they would like, and many people who are not even experts can tell films genres just by looking at the movie posters. Here are some common film genres.
Action
Whenever a group of rough and tough pavers are going for a boy's night at the movie, you can be sure they'll pick an action film. Action films are fast paced, feature a lot of fighting and explosions, and end with a hero triumphing over a bad guy. Some subgenres of action movies include superhero movies and war movies.
Comedy
Sometimes, when you've had a hard day staging Ajax homes for sale and you just want to relax, you'll choose a comedy so you can kick back and unwind. Comedy movies feature plenty of jokes and laughs and usually have a story that's ridiculous or silly or portrays normal life in a silly way. Comedies almost always end happily. Subgenres include romantic comedies and black comedies.
Drama
The drama genre is closest to the stage plays that have been around for centuries. They usually depict a common human problem, such as greed, jealousy, love, or death in a serious way. Their endings can be positive or negative outcomes. Subgenres of drama include biopics and period films.
Family
Family films are designed to appeal to both kids and adults alike and feature themes like friendship, love, honor, and the importance of family. They can be either dramatic or funny, but usually have happy endings. They also do not contain any material (i.e. sex, drugs) that is not suitable for kids. Subgenres include cartoons and TV spinoffs.
Horror/Thriller
By portraying "normal" characters in "normal" situations that have a horrific twist involving the threat of murder or serious injury, horror and thriller movies aim to scare their audiences. Because a horror film can be shot in any Rosedale homes, they are among the cheapest to produce. Subgenres include political thrillers and monster movies.
Science Fiction/Fantasy
If you're fascinated by the gadgets your Stouffville optometrist has, sci-fi and fantasy is a good genre for you. These types of films feature fantastical worlds, devices, and characters but tell stories with common themes, such as love or war. The difference between sci-fi and fantasy is that sci-fi's fantastical world are based on science, and fantasy's on magic. Subgenres include sword and sorcery, urban fantasy, and space opera.
